Today’s Smart Money Question:

Retirement planning requires more than financial preparation. Matt details why it’s important to set personal goals in retirement.

Here Are Just A Handful Of Things You’ll Learn:

What Are You Going To Do In Retirement?

  • [00:48] – We’ve all thought about the financial aspect of our retirement. After all, it’s important we don’t outlive our money. However, it’s just as important to think about how we’ll spend our time in retirement. Let’s say money isn’t an issue. Furthermore, let’s assume you have the gift of longevity. What are you going to do for the next 30 years?

Retirement Can Mean A Lot Of Different Things.

  • [2:25] – Gone are the days when retirement consisted of sitting on the porch drinking lemonade. These days folks have all sorts of goals. Maybe you want to travel, spend more time with the grandkids, or volunteer with a local non-profit. It’s possible you even go back to work. For some, retirement is a chance to start a second career or work part-time doing whatever it is they love.

It’s A Mental Game.

  • 5:27 – Retirement is as much a mental game as it is a financial one. We find the most satisfied folks in retirement are the ones who remain socially engaged. In fact, folks who don’t have a plan for what they’re going to do in retirement often end up doing nothing, and their health tends to deteriorate faster. There are so many activities that immediately jump to the forefront of your mind, but they’ll only keep you busy for awhile. Therefore, it’s important to make a game plan for how you’re going to stay sharp and interact with your community.
